The story of Edward Jenner shows how we all have the capacity to change the world, individually and collectively. But Dr Jenner’s House is more than just a museum about one man.

It is at the heart of a living community of people around the world and it tells an ongoing story of society working together to tackle disease and the role we can all play to keep each other safe and healthy. Dr Jenner’s House encourages curiosity and shows the power of science to change the world. As the world once again unites in the struggle against disease, for many the works and values of Edward Jenner are crucial in making sense of current events.

Responsibility for the continued preservation of Dr Jenner’s House as a museum falls to The Jenner Trust, an independent charity in receipt of no regular funding. Each and every year we are responsible for generating the income required to maintain the building, open it to visitors and run our educational and outreach programmes. But we know we can do more. In order to truly fulfil the potential that we have as the home of vaccination and to develop our work so that Dr Jenner’s House is able to be resilient during the ongoing global health emergency, we need your help.

The Jenner Trust

Dr Jenner’s House is run by The Jenner Trust which is a registered charity (charity number 1158316). We are also an accredited museum (number 850).

We preserve The Chantry for the world and as a base from which we celebrate the ongoing legacy of the pioneering scientist Edward Jenner and encourage others to follow in his footsteps.

We do this by:

  • Fostering curiosity and experimentation.

  • Enabling conversations which can change the world.

  • Celebrating vaccination from the place where it began.

  • Inspiring current and future scientists.

  • Ensuring Edward Jenner’s story is told beyond the walls of the building.

Inspired by Edward Jenner’s own values, we are:

Curious

We love to question the world around us.

Collaborative

We work with others to do more than we could achieve alone.

Informed

Everything we do is based on rigorous research.

Determined

We keep going in the face of adversity.

Inclusive

Our story is for everyone.

Our vision is of a world where people work together in pursuit of knowledge.

In 2019 and 2020 we carried out a comprehensive review of our work, based on significant research and stakeholder engagement. As a result of this we have created a new Forward Plan to guide our work, through the bicentenary of Jenner’s death in 2023, to the fortieth anniversary of Dr Jenner’s House opening to the public in 2025.

Our Forward Plan was launched on 5 February 2021.

You can also download a text only version of our Forward Plan.
